Queen Bastet

Wikipedia says: Bastet was originally a fierce lioness warrior goddess of the sun worshiped throughout most of ancient Egyptian history, but later she was changed into the cat goddess that is familiar today, becoming Bastet. She then was depicted as the daughter of Ra and Isis, and the consort of Ptah, with whom she had a son Maahes.

I first learned of Queen Bast in my early 20’s. Goddess Bast and Queen Lillith, whom we will discus briefly here and more later in another blog; are two main goddesses that the spiritual society devotes their attentions upon. You can find whole magical communities living as cat people sworn to Goddess Bast to this day. Way back in 2005 when dial up internet was still a thing, there were board rooms and chat area’s devoted to her magical Goddess ways. I just happened to stumble upon them one day when searching for information on Egypt. I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt’s Pharaohs and their Queens. Bastet was new to me. Learning that she would show favor to those who loved cats as she was the Goddess of the Cat People took my mind to a new world. I have always loved cats. Did Goddess Baste really show favor to these people? Hmmm.

Set the stage here for ya, I’m about twenty-five years old. Living in low income housing development in small town Pennsylvania with my then five year son. The neighborhood kids always knocking on my door to play with my son or asking if they could come until their mom got home. I would never turn them away unless I had too. There was this one evening a group of the kids came running to my door crying and banging until I opened the door. The oldest sister about age 12 I think was holding a six week old kitten in her arms. She was sobbing with tears. Her younger siblings all crowded around her tightly crying as well. “Please Miss Amy, Please You have to save her for me. Please.” Now why she thought I could save this kitten was beyond me at this moment. I took the kitten in my hands. It was lifeless and barely breathing. I had what happened. Their mom’s boyfriend at the time had come home from work and didn’t see the kitten and stepped on it. He was about 6foot ‘5 inches tall an a good 230- 250 pounds. Mostly muscles from his hard labor job. He wouldn’t have done that on purpose. I know this. These kids were all standing here, looking to me to cure this kitten. Why? I took a deep breathe and said I’d keep her and try with her. At this point in my life I had read every medium book I could get my hands on. Sylvia Browne always talked about calling on Queen Lillith for help with animals since she was the queen of nature. I had just read about Bastet the goddess of all felines. Once the kids were gone and my son was in bed, it was just me and this lifeless kitten in my living room. I fed her with a dropper some warm milk and then water. I cradled her between my hands and called on both Queen Lillith and Goddess Bast to help me heal this little baby. I kept her cozy all night. By morning she was up wobbling around with big kitten baby belly playing. No signs of being stepped on the previous day. Did Queen Lillith and Goddess Bastet heal this kitten through me? Yes, I believe they did assist me in healing her. Sad part of the story is that i gave the kitten back to the kids who brought her to me. Three weeks later as I am getting ready for a shower they bring the kitten to me in a plastic bag showing me that the kitten had died. I made them leave with their laughs and giggles as they tried showing the kitten to me. I sobbed so hard for the life of that sweet kitten. If only I had kept her.

I have payed respect to Goddess Bastet several times since just because. I felt her presence while on my trip to Egypt in 2010. I just call on her strength when needed and ask her to assist as needed.

She is a kind loving Goddess.

Thank you for joining me reading this.
